Weird Inventions
I’m in my basement, busily writing and surfing the web. What an incredible invention, I think to myself. I try to imagine what it took, to almost create a new world. I’m fascinated.
Upstairs, my brother runs the RoboVac, a vacuum that runs around the room by itself. If it hits a wall or carpet, it automatically turns around. Who would have invented such a thing?
Think of how creative people were, to create something of their own kind, just to impress others.
Think of the invention of the calculator. We hardly use these things, but at school, they’re pretty popular. Who would have thought, “Well, I’m going to create a machine that does your math FOR you.” You have to admit, that’s pretty cool.
Think of transportation, and what we use today. If Henry Ford decided not to tinker with his things, if the Wright brothers were just too lazy, where would we be in the world today? We’d be lacking the great key to traveling, transportation.
So, sure Apple’s creating stuff everyday. But we’re used to that. We’re expecting it. What if some one were to create something so new, so efficient, that it’d turn into an everyday conduct, like transportation and computers? It could happen. Get in your garage, you could be the next inventer!
Hi Cassidy,
I like this narrative from a teaching point of view. I am a teacher and as I read your close observations about the different inventions that we use every day without even thinking about them, I can imagine how my students would love to read your writing. I could see you write little narratives that teach children about the history of inventions. Have you ever thought of trying that?
I would love to see you follow how an invention got started (from your imagination) and from a factual historical point of view.
Thanks for the inspiration!
